We returned to Svalbard for one final trip of the 2023 season in early September. We had 10 days to explore some of the most remote places in the archipelago. Sea ice at this time of year has melted back substantially, exposing wide swaths of ocean that had not been available to us earlier in the season. We also had the ability to get deep into the pack ice with the ice-strengthened MV Villa. We went around the northwest corner of Spitsbergen, plied the pack ice of the Arctic Ocean, and dove into the Hinlopen Strait to find open country, plenty of wildlife, massive glaciers - all illuminated by the most beautiful fall light.The photos below are assembled as a collection from some of the talented photographers who joined us as guests as well as the expedition leader from the voyage.
