    • At 10:00 AM, embark on a private minibus city tour with a local guide.

  • The Maya Maya International Airport in Brazzaville services international flights and has direct connections to Paris, Addis Ababa, and Istanbul. The airport is just minutes away from the main city center.

    We recommend for guests joining us from The Americas and/or Europe to fly into Brazzaville (BZV) on the direct flight from Paris, touching down at 17:30 on the day your itinerary begins. We will have organized a shuttle bus to our hotel for the evening.

  • The short answer is, yes, you do need a visa to enter Congo-Brazzaville. This itinerary stays in Congo for the entirety of the expedition, so there is no need for other visas, unless you are travelling independently before or after.

    The typical process of acquiring a visa for the Republic of Congo entails sending your passport to a Congolese embassy for visa approval. We do not need to go through this process, as our local agent will arrange for all Arctic Tern Expeditions guests to be granted a visa upon arrival. This saves time, effort, and cost. The price of your visa is included in the price of the trip.

  • Unforgettable Gorilla Trekking in Odzala-Kokoua National Park (Guaranteed Encounter!)

    Gear up for an awe-inspiring adventure as you embark on a gorilla trek unlike any other in Odzala-Kokoua National Park, a true jewel of the Republic of Congo. Here's what makes this experience truly special:

    Guaranteed Encounter with Western Lowland Gorillas:

    This is where our exclusive itinerary sets itself apart! Unlike some tours with uncertain sightings, we offer a guaranteed opportunity to encounter a family of western lowland gorillas in their natural habitat. Odzala-Kokoua National Park is home to three habituated gorilla families, each with around 20 individuals, situated in different areas of the forest.

    Expertly Guided Small Groups:

    Your gorilla trek will be led by experienced and knowledgeable local trackers and guides. Their expertise in navigating the rainforest terrain and understanding gorilla behavior will ensure a safe and successful encounter. Groups are limited to just 4 people, allowing for a more intimate experience and minimizing disruptions to the gorillas.

    Multiple Tracking Options:

    While only one gorilla trek is included in our base package, Odzala offers the unique opportunity to see a second gorilla family on your second morning in the park. This is a fantastic way to witness the diverse dynamics within different gorilla groups. If you'd like to add this unforgettable experience, an additional tracking permit can be purchased directly at Odzala for $750 USD per person.

    Protecting the Wildlife:

    It is currently a requirement for all participants in the Gorilla Trekking experience to undergo COVID-19 PCR testing in Brazzaville. This is a highly sensitive population of a critically endangered species. Ensuring their health is paramount to enjoying a safe and successful visit to these incredible family groups.

As our local guide, Prince has proved an indispensable part of our operations both in coordinating the expedition and guiding ATE guests on the ground. Conservation Projects We Support in Congo

One of Africa’s oldest national parks, Odzala stands apart as a hub of central African biodiversity. The old-growth rainforest harbors critically-endangered Western lowland gorillas and elusive forest elephants. The park is managed in conjunction with Congolese government by Africa Parks. Groundbreaking research into the genetics and community structure of gorillas in the park is funded through the Sabine Plattner African Charity (SPAC) - an organization dedicated to education and conservation.

The Jane Goodall Institute has it’s hub of central African conservation operations near the coastal city of Point Noire in southern Congo. For more than 30 years now, the Tchimpounga Chimpanzee Rehabilitation Centre has been home to 200+ chimpanzees who have been orphaned, malnourished, or injured by the illegal wildlife trade and deforestation.

Visitors here will learn about the conservation issues surrounding wild chimpanzees and see rehabilitation efforts of these chimps firsthand.
