Late May in Svalbard is an interesting time of year to go adventuring through this archipelago. The islands here - hundreds of miles north of the Arctic Circle - are finally thawing out after being locked in the icy grips of winter. This means fjords still frozen fast with sea ice and shorelines still piled high with snow. Using our super-capable expedition vessel, MV Villa, we were able to explore the coast of Spitsbergen right through to the Hinlopen Strait (a surprising distance given the time of year). We were fortunate to have onboard with us accomplished photographer, Yuri Choufour, who was able to document our 8-day expedition through Svalbard and the wonderful wildlife, landscapes, and experiences of this rewarding journey.
